Interest rates play a pivotal role in home affordability. In 2024, the Federal Reserve’s efforts to combat inflation have led to higher interest rates, which, in turn, have increased mortgage rates. 


According to Freddie Mac, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate has climbed to over 7%, a significant rise from the historically low rates seen in the past decade.

As a result, many are turning to renting, which is also becoming increasingly expensive.
